A small tent city sprang up in front of Lincoln Crossing Elementary School this weekend as parents staked out their place in line for Monday morning kindergarten registration.
The school website states, “The school has spots for 130 kindergarten students. In previous years we have had over 150 student register. As a result, we have had to overflow incoming kindergarten students to our sister school. All new students to LCES are assigned a spot on a first come, first served basis with those overflowed placed on a wait list.”
For many parents, the main draw is proximity to home. Some families who live near the school could end up transporting their children to another school if they are “overflowed.” One father said, “This is crazy that we have to do this. We live 700 feet from this school, but it’s what we have to do.”
While parents visited with each other or passed the time checking social media, the school’s Daddy/Daughter dance was in full swing inside the school.
Fortunately for the campers, the weather was calm and clear.
